A night of celebration
A Night of Celebration
From whoops of surprise to tears of joy, there was much to celebrate at the seventh Merton Best Business Awards last week. For the first time ever, the Merton Chamber of Commerce organised the whole event in-house, and it was one of the best awards to date.
The red carpet was rolled out for Merton borough’s outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs, who gathered for a night of dining, entertainment and celebration at the prestigious All England Lawn Tennis Club. Hosted by sports broadcaster Laura Woods and with music from Tara Minton and Lilia Iontcheva, finalists enjoyed a prosecco reception and dined on a sumptuous three-course dinner.
The Merton Best Business Awards celebrates the top local businesses and entrepreneurs, and seeks to reward those who are proving that despite economical hurdles in the current political climate that local is where it is at and that business is still thriving for many - with over an amazing 150 entries this year.
From those who give exceptional customer service, to the bosses who look after their employees, as well as outstanding women and small companies who are making a difference in the community, the finalists were on tenterhooks as the awards ceremony began. Over 16 categories saw a whole host of winning businesses including Swords Travel for Best Small Business and White Light Ltd for Best Apprentice of the Year.
2018’s Overall Winner RyGas picked up two awards for Best Customer Service and Entrepreneur of the Year. Meanwhile, Esente Hair also won two for Best Employer of the Year and The Extra Mile Award.
It was Gina Conway and her team from Gina Conway Salon & Spa, however, who won big on the night - winning a whopping three awards including Best Overall Winner.
Gina said of accepting her awards: “I never expected to win overall winner! Although I have to say I think my business rocks! What we do is really serve the community and serve our team. Everything we do it through love - we call it beauty through love. And we really deserve it!
“I feel really proud of my team for making this happen because I can’t do without them and so grateful for having the opportunity to be here at the Merton Best Business Awards. We try to make a big difference in the world and make the world a better place. And we do it everyday with our guests. Thank you so much to my team, to our clients and to Merton.”
CEO Diana Sterck couldn’t have been prouder of the success of another fantastic Merton Best Business Awards.
“The gala awards evening was so exciting and the overall winner was the cream of a fantastic number of high quality applications from across the borough. The winner shone through as a business that places the customer at its core. They say about themselves: ‘We care about people and we show it. We work hard to make people look and feel great.’ Huge congratulations to Gina Conway and her team as well as all the other winners and runners up. Thank you to everyone who applied this year, we are privileged to have such a range of excellent businesses in the borough.”
