Transport for London (TfL) plays an essential role in our city’s development. Our Underground network covers 253 miles, serving 275 stations and carriers more than five million passengers per day.

The role of a TfL engineering apprentice is critical to ensuring the ongoing performance and safety of our tube network. The technological advancements we are seeing in our signalling and operating infrastructure mean that we need to adapt the way we maintain our assets to keep them operating at peak performance. You’ll be at the forefront of these developments whilst also keeping a watchful eye on our legacy assets across the network.

What will I be doing?

Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn from experienced and qualified staff through various placements across the organisation, to gain a broad spectrum of knowledge through a hands-on approach to learning.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

London Underground’s network covers a vast area from zones 1-9 and 11 different lines. Non-Destructive testing is utilised across the TfL estate of vehicles and station assets to ensure that they are safe to run in passenger service.

The role is customer focused and will involve working independently, whilst being part of a team, with the job holder expected to make decisions as to the outcome of NDT inspections on pan TfL assets including rolling stock and lifts and escalator assets.

Advancements in technology are making this role increasingly interesting, you’ll be working on one of the world’s oldest transport networks rolling out the most advanced technology, a truly unique opportunity.

What do we look for?

Our talented apprentices form a vital part of that vision, so it’s important that we find the best people to help us do this. We’re looking for people who are;

  • Analytical and logical thinkers
  • Continuing learners
  • Creative and innovative

As a member of the team, we’ll give you responsibility and the opportunity to add value. If you’re excited by inspiring and influencing the future of London then this is the career path for you.
