Our Chief Executive, Diana Sterck, is co-Chair of Merton's Sustainable Communities and Active Transport group that brings together business improvement districts, the Council, social housing providers, community representatives and others. The aim is to work together to attract funding and investment to the borough, to review skills and employment and to influence sustainable actions in relation to the environment and active transport.
Led by local charity Sustainable Merton, this working group brings together all those interested and involved in improving Merton’s environment. It covers four themes - air quality, waste, food and energy, all of which have an impact on businesses operating in the borough in our quest to make Merton a carbon neutral borough by 2030. From summer 2019 the group will also oversee the Council’s Air Quality Action Plan. With actions around anti-idling, emissions and clean air routes and proposals to review air quality in planning applications, we will work to represent the business voice as new policies are introduced.
