Welcome to our June edition of the Chamber enews.

One of our biggest networking events of the year will soon be upon us - our Annual General Meeting on 14th July. This is a great opportunity to meet the Chamber team, the directors and many of our members in the beautiful setting of Cannizaro House, over a delicious BBQ.

Following the success of our last 'welcome to new members' event, we have combined our next Member's event with Wimbledon College of Art's summer exhibition for a cultural networking evening of wine, canapes and art! This event is free for members so do join us.

Do you know your company's carbon impact? Find out by coming to our half day seminar at Harlequins Rugby Club. These are just a few of the many and varied events we have for members and non-members in Merton and beyond.

Energy efficiency measures save food firm £650 in one quarter

Recycling, energy efficiency, transport plan and green procurement. There’s not much that Cheese Cellar doesn’t do when it comes to environmental initiatives. Since signing up to the Go Green Plus programme the business has put together a wide ranging Green Action Plan, with the help of a Go Green Plus Adviser from southlondon.biz.

Carlos Herrera, facilities and H&S manager at Cheese Cellar, said: “It’s been a very easy programme to follow and we’ve received a lot of support and advice to pursue environmental initiatives further.”

The wide-ranging support programme is open to small and medium sized businesses (1-250 employees) and offers 12 hours of free advice and support to encourage businesses to take action on waste and energy, water and/or CO2 reduction by reducing, reusing and recycling.

For more information on Go Green Plus or to organise a visit from a Greening Business Adviser email: gogreen@southlondon.biz, call 020 8947 0055 or visit us at www.southlondon.biz/greening.

The Wimbledon Way, a designated walkway linking Wimbledon town centre to Wimbledon Village and the All England Club was formally launched at a breakfast meeting of business leaders on 18th May 2011.

Speaking to over 150 businesses at the event, Chief Executive of Merton Chamber of Commerce, Diana Sterck, said "With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, the year provides a one off chance for Wimbledon and Merton borough to not only celebrate our involvement in the Olympics but also to maximise this window of opportunity. With an estimated half a million visitors to London, South London should benefit by providing a strong offer in relation to its accommodation, attractions and history and heritage."
